Digital Service Unit (DSU) reports use Visual Networks' Visual UpTime software to provide you with statistics gathered at the "provider layer." These reports provide you statistics based on what the carrier provides to you. Our reports are based on data gathered in routers, typically. The difference between the two is that the DSUs provide a more accurate depiction of "true network usage" because the statistics are represented before the router processes them.
Additionally, the DSU reports provided through Visual UpTime have a mechanism for capturing data "end-to-end." This means that the Visual UpTime can provide "meaningful" statistics on an entire circuit as opposed to an end-point. The Visual software examines data from end-to-end and provides a "relational" interpretation of the information, unlike the router-based reports that provide data based upon each end-point. In this situation, relational interpretation is better because router-based reports require you to interpret what the relationship between each end-point actually is.
To run a DSU Report:
Select the Reports tab.
From the Available Reports categories, select Custom > DSU. You are re-directed to the Visual Networks site.
NOTE: The Visual Network site provides instructions for creating and running the report.
